For Students
Students in occupational therapy, physiotherapy and speech language pathology university master’s programs have the opportunity to provide respite to families of children with special needs through Operation Oasis.
Qualified students will be contacted by the program coordinator with information regarding interested families as opportunities become available. Students will be responsible for reaching out to families they are interested in working with. Pay, timing of services, and expectations will be negotiated independently between the student and family.
In the past, examples of activities and services students have provided include: personal care assistance, opportunities for socialization, activities promoting increased independence, assistance with school work, implementation of pre-established therapy programs (developed by registered therapists), behavioural support, babysitting services and opportunities for community/sport involvement. Please remember, as students you are not able to carry out assessments nor provide therapy at any time and should make this clear when communicating with families.
